Nike SB are finally about release the elusive and much antisipated Nike SB "Strawberry Cough" Dunk High shoe, which was originally supposed to drop back in 2020 as part of Nike SB's ongoing 4/20 themed dunk releases.
These fruity treats from the Swoosh are the follow up to 2019's "Dog Walker" Dunk Highs, designed by long time SB collaborator and creator of countless iconic skateboard graphics, Todd Bratrud. The Minnesota based artist is responsible for some of the best known 4/20 Dunk shoes to date, such as 2010's Nike SB "Skunk" Dunk High, 2011's "Cheech & Chong" Dunk High and 2018's Nike SB Dunk Mid "White Widow" shoes.
Like many of the 4/20 releases the "Strawberry Cough" Dunk High's take their name from the potent marijuana strain of the same name, and Bratrud plays nicely with this in the Dunks design. The high-top silhouette is constructed with a mix of hairy suede, textured leather, suede and velvet.
Textured red leather overlays with pops of colour to denote seeds cover the classic toebox, quarter and eyestays, then it switches up to weed green hairy suede at the Swoosh and carries through the heel counter. Embroidered on the outer heel is a custom Todd Bratrud "Strawberry Cough" character, which is also seen on the Dunk High's custom insole.
The padded Dunk High tongue fades from red to white mimicing the colour of a ripening stawberry, and the green suede on the heel is replaced with a tactile green velvet material on the collar and heel tab. The shoe is then signed off with another nod to it's 4/20 heritage with a smokey translucent midsole and outsole.
